INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group and partnering contractors are contributing more than $100,000 in expenses and in-kind work and hundreds of employee volunteer hours to refurbish Eagle Creek Park’s Hide-A-Way retreat as part of the 4th Annual “Sharing the Dream” service project honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Indy Parks will utilize the newly renovated space for rental opportunities and social activities and continue its mission to create fun, safe, engaging and sustainable parks that enhance the quality of life for individuals, neighborhoods and communities.
“Eagle Creek Park is one of our most popular and beautiful outdoor treasures in the city with unique and valuable amenities. Thanks to Citizens Energy Group’s continued commitment to enhancing our priceless assets, the Hide-A-Way will see new life as a welcoming retreat space,” said Mayor Greg Ballard.
Citizens Energy Group is providing contractors and volunteers to paint the walls, replace the outdated kitchen, update the living area, install new lighting and refresh the entire building. Partnering industrial contractor Marksmen Construction Services will offer additional services, while Mitsch Design will assist with color and fabric selections. Volunteers will roll up their sleeves for the project Jan. 12 and 13.
“Giving back to the community is part of our culture at Citizens Energy Group,” said Carey Lykins, president and CEO of Citizens Energy Group. “We are pleased that employee volunteers will once again partner with Indy Parks to improve a space that the entire community can enjoy for years to come.”

About Hide-A-Way Retreat
The Hide-A-Way retreat is located on sloping wooden terrain in Eagle Creek Park, the eighth-largest municipal park in the country. The building was originally part of J.K. Lilly’s estate, which donated the land it was on to Purdue University in 1962. The City purchased the land from Purdue and officially opened it as a park in 1972.
